Specializing in classic fish and chips, this local gem serves up hearty portions that deliver the perfect balance of crispy, golden batter and tender, flaky fish. The standout dish, affectionately nicknamed "Moby Dick" by locals, truly lives up to its name with its impressively generous size and exceptional taste, leaving customers both satisfied and eager to return.

The menu at Nelson Fisheries is simple yet thoughtfully curated, capturing the essence of traditional British fare. Popular lunch specials, such as the Small Haddock & Small Chips and Sausage & Small Chips, provide an ideal, fulfilling meal during a busy day. Complement your main with satisfying sides like freshly cooked peas, comforting curry sauce, or rich gravy. For those who enjoy a bit of zest, the Samerican Chip Spice adds a delightful kick to the classic chips, while pickled onions and Heinz's iconic condiments round out the authentic takeaway experience.

What truly sets Nelson Fisheries apart is their commitment to quality and freshness. Customers frequently praise how the fish is never overly greasy but consistently juicy and flavorful—a rare find in the takeaway world. The crisply cooked chips maintain their perfect crunch even when taken home, a testament to the expertise of the skilled team behind the counter. As customer Dave Manley enthusiastically remarks, “The chips are as chips should be,” highlighting the firm yet tender texture that makes each bite a nostalgic delight.

The welcoming atmosphere is evident even in takeaway form, thanks to the friendly and attentive service by Ronnie, Diane, and their dedicated staff. Their passion and warmth resonate strongly with patrons like Samantha Martin, who appreciated the courteous delivery and delicious meals shared with family. This personable touch elevates the overall experience, transforming a simple takeaway into a memorable visit.

While the shop may appear modest from the outside, its reputation for incredible taste and generous portions speaks volumes within the local community. As Gurjit Dhesi notes, “It does look deceptive from the outside; however, the food is really good.” Nelson Fisheries consistently earns high praise for maintaining authentic flavors with sizeable servings that offer excellent value for money—a combination that’s hard to beat in this part of Leeds.

For anyone craving classic fish and chips that confidently uphold tradition yet satisfy modern expectations of freshness and flavor, Nelson Fisheries is a must-visit. What an amazing bunch of guys the chips are as chips should be the fish nicknamed moby dick was huge and very tasty indeed I can throughly recommend a visit

Just had a Special like a whale cooked to perfection I don't know a fish shop in the area which can beat the Nelson Ronnie and Diane

Nice little chippy. Lightly battered fish is usually very good and the chips are mostly good. It would be nice to be able to apply your own salt and vinegar as sometimes it's either too much of one or not enough of the other. Aside from that everything is good

A portion of fish and chips done really well. Not overly greasy and tastes as good as they can. Only thing is it does look deceptive from the outside however the food is really good.

Best fish and chips in the area. Always well cooked and god portion size for the money
